An agreement between progress and determination with a "single bloc" may end Al-Halbousi's fortunes for a second term
Shafaq News/ Talks are continuing between two coalitions led by the dissolved Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi and a determination led by Khamis al-Khanjar to reach a final agreement and officially announce the formation of a united Sunni bloc within the parliament and agree to nominate a candidate for parliament by consensus of the two alliances.
An informed source close to al-Khanjar said in an interview with Shafak News Agency; "The announcement of the united Sunni bloc between (determination and progress) may be officially revealed during the next two days so that it (the Sunni bloc) can enter into political understandings with the rest of the parties after announcing the final results of the elections."
The source indicated; That "meetings are continuing between the two sides to agree on the internal program of the new bloc, as well as understandings to unify the discourse, as well as to identify the names of candidates for the position of Parliament Speaker."
He pointed out that "both coalitions have ambitions for the position, but the chances (progress) remain more, given that it has more parliamentary weight in terms of parliamentary seats, and we may go towards its candidate."
The source added that "all the understandings that led to the meetings of the winning parties in the elections cannot be decided upon before the final results are announced and ratified, and they are not binding on everyone until the scene becomes clear."
and between the source; That "there is more than one scenario on the table of understandings between the two alliances, including naming (Khaled al-Obeidi) or (Mahmoud al-Mashhadani) as Speaker of Parliament in exchange for a determination to give up all its gains or the ministries that it may obtain according to the government division by adopting the parliamentary weight."
It seems that the Alliance of Azm is divided against itself, as the poles of (Azm) in Baghdad see that there is no agreement between them and (Progress) to form a united Sunni bloc.
The leader, Iyad al-Jubouri, told Shafaq News Agency; "The directions of the Azm Alliance are to go with the brothers in the (Shiite) coordinating framework in the search for mechanisms and solutions to ensure that the country emerges from the crisis of disagreement over the election results."
He added, "According to the information available to me, it confirms that entering into understandings to form a united Sunni bloc is premature, as it has not been resolved so far. The election results crisis has not ended."
He pointed out that "renewing confidence in (Al-Halbousi) is unlikely, as our alliance presents more than one candidate for the presidency of Parliament, but it will be announced officially after the final results of the elections, including former Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, former Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi and Representative Talal al-Zawba'i, all have the support of Our (Sunni) audience, and the final election results and their approval are the decisive factor in determining the compass of the parliament presidency.”
An informed source made a disclosure to Shafak News Agency; "All representatives of Takadum with its leaders are present in Jordan to discuss future mechanisms and the limits of participation in the country's political scene," noting that "the competition between the candidates (Muhammad al-Halbousi and Muhammad Tamim) is fiercer between them, and a vote may take place within (Takad) to resolve its only candidate for the presidency. Parliament, and it seems that the chances of both are equal, and the upcoming alliances with some independents and small lists may play a role in deciding the parliament’s presidency for the strongest.”
The spokesman for the Azm Salah al-Jubouri alliance had announced earlier that his alliance had reached "good stages" of understandings in negotiation, confidence-building and prioritizing the next stages.
On the future work plan and its entitlements and the priorities of the areas liberated from terrorism and uniting the ranks to reach the central goals such as the files of the forcibly disappeared, the return of the displaced and the areas that are still closed to their people, and the reconstruction of the liberated areas and the fairness of their people.
He stressed that "a coalition of resolve continues to open up to the rest of the winning coalitions in the last October elections, and it is in the process of studying all the ideas proposed by the winning blocs and coalitions."
Al-Jubouri also indicated that "Azm is still monitoring the outcomes of the electoral process and is waiting for a real treatment of the many indicators that accompanied the announcement of the election results."
