Shafaq News/ The US Deputy Envoy to Syria, David Bronstein, affirmed his country's position in support of the resumption of Kurdish negotiations in the Autonomous Administration area in northeastern Syria.
The US envoy said in a virtual meeting he held with a delegation from the Kurdish National Council that "the United States intends to stay in northeastern Syria to prevent the return of ISIS, and the importance of securing stability in this region and their support for a political solution in Syria in accordance with international resolutions on resolving the Syrian crisis."
Bronstein affirmed, according to a statement issued by the "National Council" today, Wednesday, "his country's commitment to sponsoring the negotiations between the Kurdish National Council and the National Unity Parties, and commitment to the document of guarantees he signed with the leader of the SDF, Mazloum Abdi, and the necessity of implementing its content, and then sitting at the negotiating table."
The statement added: "The presidency of the Council, for its part, thanked America for its keenness to preserve the security and stability of the region and to prevent any external interference due to its repercussions and risks to stability."
He pointed out, "to stand on the continuation of violations against the council, the arrest of its members, and the continuous threats against the Roj Peshmerga families, and the closure of the Semalka crossing in front of the council's leaders and members."
The statement concluded by saying: "At the end of the meeting, the ambassador promised to discuss and address all these issues with the (SDF) leadership, and that the American diplomatic team will return soon to the region and will work to overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of the Kurdish negotiations."
Nearly a year ago, the Kurdish negotiations between the two poles of the Kurdish political movement in Syria faltered, following the escalation of tension between the two parties, amid repeated accusations from the Kurdish National Council of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its security services of arresting its members and burning its headquarters in the region.
