Shafaq News/ "Human Rights Watch" said on Friday that an "arbitrary" judicial complaint was filed against a member of the "High Commissioner for Human Rights" (the High Commissioner for Human Rights) in Iraq, who sought to investigate allegations of torture of detainees.
The complaint was filed on 3 February against Dr. Ali Al-Bayati, a member of the Commission. Three days later, employees of the Rusafa Court of Investigation in Baghdad questioned al-Bayati over his statements about an investigation opened by the commission into the work of the Iraqi Anti-Corruption Commission, which was established by Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] , according to the organization.

The Commission sought to investigate these allegations and requested the Anti-Corruption Commission to interview those detained on charges related to the Commission's work.
The organization quoted Al-Bayati as saying that the Anti-Corruption Committee rejected the request, which falls within the legal jurisdiction of the Commission, and directed the Commission to obtain permission from the "General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers." Instead of agreeing to the commission's request, the secretariat filed a judicial complaint against al-Bayati. The complaint refers to Article 434 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which defines “throwing at others something that offends his honor or honor or hurts his feelings” as a crime punishable by imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year.
He added, "It is very humiliating and painful to be a doctor and a defender of human rights in a democratic country, and then enter a court accused not because of a crime you committed, but because you defended the rights of your citizens and fulfilled the duties you swore."
