Shafaq News / A deputy from Nineveh Governorate revealed, on Friday, that the federal government will allocate more than 200 billion Iraqi dinars to the budget for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Mosul International Airport, warning against the emergence of popular demonstrations in the governorate in the event of the project's reluctance or halt.
"The Ministry of Planning has approved the plans for Mosul airport, which the local government intends to rebuild," Nineveh MP Muhammad Nuri al-Abed Rabbo told Shafaq News, noting that "an amount of 214 billion Iraqi dinars from the frozen funds belonging to Nineveh will be allocated for the implementation of the airport."
Representative Al-Abed Rabbo added that he and a group of representatives from the governorate are following up on the Mosul airport file, warning "of any procrastination or delay regarding the procedures for implementing this airport."
The representative from Nineveh also warned of "mass demonstrations that will be obligatory for the residents of Mosul in the event that there is a disagreement with what is expected, or the procedures for the reconstruction of Mosul Airport are hampered."
Al-Abed Rabbo indicated that "silence is no longer acceptable, and the airport must be present on the ground, and we will not accept as representatives of Nineveh otherwise, and the people of Nineveh will not accept anything other than this as well."
The organization (ISIS) had completely destroyed the infrastructure of Nineveh Governorate, including Mosul Airport, whose land is still barren and the reconstruction project has not seen the light of day, and herds of livestock and animals spread on its land, despite the assurances of the federal and local governments on its reconstruction.
