Moroccan Justice Minister Abdellatif Wehbe agreed with his Iraqi counterpart Salar Abdel Sattar on Friday to hand over the Moroccans detained in Baghdad, while the former confirmed his intention to visit Baghdad to implement the agreement on the ground.
This came during a meeting between the two parties that took place at the headquarters of the Moroccan Ministry in Rabat, according to the Moroccan "Hespress" agency.
A Moroccan source told the agency, "The meeting between the two parties touched upon the situation of a number of Moroccans detained in Iraq, who were prosecuted for being involved in terrorism-related cases."
The source added, "Wehbe agreed with his Iraqi counterpart to resolve this file by handing these detainees over to Morocco, but the matter needs a legal framework that will be prepared soon," pointing out that "the signing of an agreement is imminent to allow these detainees and others to be handed over to Morocco."
After his meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Salar Abdel Sattar, Moroccan Justice Minister Abdellatif Wahbi confirmed that positive results would be reached that would benefit the two countries, not only at the legal and judicial level, but on other levels, including the economic and political.
Wehbe said: "I am pleased and delighted with this relationship, and I will visit Iraq and we will meet as soon as possible so that we give our agreement its true value," expressing his hope that the agreements of the Moroccan and Iraqi ministries will be translated into reality in the near future.
