Today, Saturday, the Ministry of Trade announced that the quantities of marketed wheat have increased to one million and 300 thousand tons for the current season, and while it revealed the volume of marketing from the governorates of the Kurdistan region alone, it indicated the size of the monthly need for the whole of Iraq.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, Muhammad Hanoun, said, "The quantities of marketed wheat rose today to one million and 300 thousand tons, and today also, marketing centers were opened in the Kurdistan region for the purpose of receiving its production of wheat."
He added, "It is expected that the quantity of wheat marketed from the provinces of the region will range between 300-400 thousand tons, and that the marketing season in Iraq will reach about one million and 800 thousand tons and perhaps two million."
He stressed that "these quantities confirm, in turn, the need for more imports of wheat to secure the citizens' need within the ration card items."
He pointed out that "the Ministry of Commerce is able to absorb the marketed quantities this year, and two seasons ago it succeeded in marketing 5 million and 400 thousand tons, and its stores are large and ready to accommodate the largest quantities," noting that "the farmers do not face any problems in the delivery of the crop as a result of overcoming all obstacles after the issuance of decisions From the Council of Ministers, I paid for the success of the current marketing season.”
On the monthly local need, he explained that "the Ministry of Commerce needs 460,000 tons per month, and expectations indicate that the marketing season may reach at most two million tons, and therefore there is a need for more than 3 million tons more to meet the local need." Ended 29 / p. 87
