Shafaq News/ The rise in the exchange rates of the dollar in the Iraqi local markets led to approximately 156,000 dinars for every 100 dollars, due to the rise in food prices in the wholesale markets, which are the main artery of the citizen's life.
A wholesale market trader in a beautiful area in Baghdad, called "Abu Sajjad", told Shafaq News agency, "Food prices are rising as long as we deal and import them in dollars," noting that "the prices of rice of all kinds have risen by approximately 1,000 dinars per bag, weighing 30 kilograms." And the amount of 1,500 dinars for one carton, the weight of a kilogram, and the type of paste also increased by a thousand dinars per carton, to reach 32,000 dinars.

He pointed out that "vegetable oils did not rise, given that there are Iraqi factories in which this substance is produced," noting that "the merchant is not harmed in terms of the rise in dollar prices, because the sale process is also carried out on the basis of the dollar," stressing that "the greatest damage occurs." On the consumer citizen, the only harm to merchants and wholesale markets is the recession that will befall the market now.
For his part, citizen Muhammad Karim told Shafaq News agency, "What we hear every day of a rise in prices comes with every rise in the dollar, and this has become normal in our lives," noting that the most affected are the simple citizen and the employee whose salary is not enough for living.
He added, "What is distributed from the food basket is not sufficient, and its types are not good, especially rice, which most families resort to selling because of its poor quality."
And the exchange rate of the US dollar continues to rise against the Iraqi dinar on the main stock exchange in the capital, Baghdad, to exceed today, Monday, for the first time “in two years,” the barrier of 156 thousand dinars for every 100 dollars.
This increase is the first since 2020, when the Iraqi Parliament approved the general budget approved by the Central Bank at an official exchange rate of 146,000 dinars.
