    The Ministry of Environment announced, on Sunday, the discovery of all the pieces contaminated with depleted uranium that were missing from the temporary quarry in Dhi Qar Governorate.
     The director of the Radiation Protection Center, Hassan Al-Husseini, said in a statement reported by the official newspaper, that "the technical teams of the center conducted a comprehensive radiological assessment of all scrap collection sites and recycling industries in Dhi Qar, and conducted a radiological survey of all scrap pieces in each site, which continued until the technical teams were able to affiliated to the Dhi Qar Environment Directorate, and in coordination with the teams affiliated with the Radiation Protection Center and with the support of the security authorities in the governorate, to find all the pieces contaminated with depleted uranium that were missing from the temporary quarry in the governorate, and matching them with the database of the Radiation Protection Center and the results of previous inspection visits to the temporary quarry In the province and the pictures of these pieces in the quarry.
    Al-Husseini added, "The technical teams were also able to find nine additional pieces of contaminated tanks that were found in one of the scrap collection sites in the governorate."
    He explained, "The technical teams of the Radiation Protection Center, with the support of the Dhi Qar Environment Directorate, continued on a daily and continuous basis to search for pieces contaminated with depleted uranium that were missing from the temporary quarry for radioactive waste in Dhi Qar Governorate," praising the "extraordinary efforts made by the technical teams." To protect citizens and the environment from the dangers of radioactive contamination by controlling polluted scrap collection sites in Baghdad and the provinces and limiting the spread of radioactive pollution to wider areas, especially those materials used in recycling industries.
