    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The director of the International Center for Development Studies, Sadiq Al-Rikabi, revealed the poorest cities in Iraq, while indicating that poverty rates in the country increased by 3 percent.
Al-Rikabi said in a televised interview, followed by (Baghdad Today), that "the poverty rates that were monitored between 2018 and 2022, were found to be increasing by 2% to 3% rapidly, and Basra, Maysan and Nasiriyah in the south, and Mosul in the north, are among the most poorer cities.
He explained that "the poverty line means the minimum income for a particular country, and in Iraq this limit ranges between two to three dollars, and accordingly, more than 12 million Iraqis do not get 200 thousand dinars per month, which is not sufficient for the family for days.”
And he believed that "the government's mistake lies in that it works to increase salaries, instead of distributing that cash block to service projects that will generate financial returns in the future."
The director of the International Center for Development Studies touched on the statistics related to poverty rates, which showed that "a quarter of Iraqis are poor, and more than 11 million Iraqis are below the poverty line, and according to the Ministry of Planning, the Poverty rate in the country is 25% of the population, while the opinion of the advisor, Mazhar Muhammad Salih, was that the percentage is 30%,” adding that “the statement of Chancellor Saleh is the most accurate, and the real number of the poor who live below the poverty line is estimated at 12,600,000,” according to his opinion.
