The European Union Coordinator for Countering Violent Extremism, Ilka Salmi, said, during a workshop between the European Union and the Iraqi National Security Adviser in the field of combating violent extremism and terrorism, which was held yesterday in Baghdad: “I bless and praise the Iraqi government’s role in combating terrorism, and its development of new strategies and plans to eliminate violence.” Extremism and terrorism.

The international official added that "(ISIS) and (Al-Qaeda) still pose a threat to the world in general, and Iraq and Syria in particular," pointing out that "extremist groups withdrew from the field, and went to social networking sites to recruit young people."

He stressed that "the European Union has invested in sports and science to attract young people instead of being exploited by extremist terrorist groups," noting: "We have several programs in partnership with the Iraqi National Security Adviser to prevent extremism and terrorism."

And he indicated that "the European Union will start a program in Iraq with the Hedayah Center on how to address these and other important issues in preventing and combating extremist violence," noting that "last year the European Union had the privilege of launching a special training for female law enforcement officers."

He indicated that he "will discuss with the Iraqi government the mechanism through which the European Union can assist Iraq in the process that the government has begun to return its citizens from Al-Hol camp, and ensure successful reintegration into local communities, after the European Union's funding has been provided to support the reintegration process." .

"We must avoid the emergence of new havens for terrorists and prevent them from planning attacks around the world," he stressed. He explained that "the European Union is witnessing today the rise of extremism and terrorism, by seeking to recruit young people, and many plots have been thwarted."

For its part, the Iraqi National Security Adviser, headed by Qassem Al-Araji, confirmed during the symposium that "the years 2023 and 2024 will benefit from experiences in eliminating extremism and terrorism."

While the concerned Iraqi agencies are pursuing the elements of the organization in different regions of Iraq, part of the discussions that the Iraqi delegation is conducting, headed by Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein in Washington, is related to the mechanism by which the United States of America can help Iraq in terms of fighting ISIS, according to the agreement. In this context, Fadhel Abu Ragheef, a security expert specializing in extremist groups, says, "The process of ISIS employing social media is not, in fact, new. Rather, it can be said that this terrorist organization has succeeded in it to a large extent."

He added, "The organization had worked since an early age to create sites for it in the social media, including platforms, and some of them were published in three categories, including, for example, the (Dabiq) site, which was published in Gaziantep and Rahbaniyah in three parts: the paper part, and the audio part." , and the printed part, as well as the (Al-Furqan) website, which was destroyed by the Falcons Cell at the time, as well as the (Al-Naba’) and (Al-Yaqin) websites, and perhaps other sites, the latest of which is the (Amaaq) website that the organization uses to broadcast a lot of what it thinks is useful, while it is in fact Just lies and fabrications.”

Abu Ragheef stressed that “the organization is keen, through these websites and publications, to instill terror and fear among the recipients, and in the Arab and international environment, and therefore it must be recognized that the terrorist organization has a high capacity in terms of polarization, brainwashing methods, and other methods.”

Abu Ragheef revealed that "ISIS is now recruiting and marketing, through what it calls victimization, the children of the murdered, the children of the unknown, and the children of the detainees for this purpose."
