Yesterday, Thursday, the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly approved Russia's isolation. On the first anniversary of the start of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, it called for a "comprehensive, just and lasting peace," and the United Nations again called on Russia to withdraw its forces and stop fighting.

Major powers such as India and South Africa abstained from voting in a similar vote in the past, while Russia's allies opposed the resolution.

While the British Broadcasting Corporation said that the vote of the General Assembly in the United Nations has no binding force, but it is considered an important measure of international public opinion. This is the 11th emergency session of the United Nations General Assembly on Ukraine.

On Tuesday, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned Russia's war on Ukraine. "This invasion is an affront to our conscience," he said.

For its part, the White House announced, earlier Thursday, that the United States will impose new "large-scale" sanctions on Russia, on the eve of the first anniversary of the Russian forces' invasion of Ukraine.

White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre said, during a press conference, that "the United States will impose large-scale sanctions on vital sectors that generate revenue for Russian President Vladimir Putin."
