Shafaq News/ Today, Saturday, the Parliamentary Legal Committee commented on the objection of the Sadrist movement, led by Muqtada al-Sadr, to the new election law, which aims to return to the "St. Lego" system.

Committee member Omid Muhammad told Shafaq News agency, "The election law is a political law, and it can only be passed in the House of Representatives with a political agreement between all the influential and emerging political forces, even the opposition and the withdrawn ones, led by the Sadrist movement."
And Muhammad indicated that "the Sadrist movement's objection will certainly have an impact on the issue of legislation for the new election law, which aims to return to the "Saint Lego" system, especially as there is a rejection of this law by independent representatives and emerging blocs, and for this reason there is difficulty in passing the law, without agreement. Political parties between all parties, including the Sadrists.
And yesterday, Friday, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Hakim Al-Zamili, announced his objection to amending the election law, which the coordination framework seeks to pass in the Iraqi parliament.
Al-Zamili also published, on his official account on "Facebook", a video clip of the representative of the religious authority, Abd al-Mahdi al-Karbalai, and wrote on it, "No to the closed list, not to the one circle."
Al-Karbalai says in the clip, "The opinion of the religious authority is neither for the closed list nor for a single electoral district," adding that "the closed list closes the way for voters to choose who represents them in Parliament."
For his part, the representative of the resigned Sadrist bloc, Haider al-Mansouri, described the political parties that passed the law in the past as "the parties of St. Lego...", asking, "Do you expect the losing power parties to enact an election law that allows citizens to hold the winners accountable through the ballot box?"
He also asked, "Is it logical to give the real independents the opportunity once again to compete with the militias and contracting factions?... Will they return to begging for alliances from all the emerging powers that will not trust them in the future, especially after their betrayal and denial of them, despite their strong standing by the obstructive third."
Al-Masnouri indicated, "Their alignment was previously due to the presence of al-Sadr, but now al-Sadr is not present. How will matters be settled in favor of the Saint-Lego parties," according to him.
On Thursday, February 23, 2023, the Iraqi Council of Representatives failed to hold its session devoted to discussing several issues, most notably the amendment of the provincial and district council elections law.
The report and discussion (second reading) of the proposed third amendment law to the Provincial and District Council Elections Law No. 12 of 2008 from the Legal Committee and the Committee of Regions and Governorates not organized in a region were included in the agenda of the House of Representatives on Thursday, while the session was postponed under the chairmanship of the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Shah Wan. Abdullah for half an hour.
The Parliament's Media Department said in a brief statement that the House of Representatives has postponed its session to next Monday.
