The US Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, avoided talking about the water crisis afflicting Iraq during her official statement on the interview that took place with the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Rashid, today, Sunday, contenting herself with affirming the United States' support for Iraq in the field of energy.
The US ambassador affirmed, according to a tweet translated by (Baghdad Today), her country's commitment to supporting Iraq in the field of energy and increasing its "role" in the region in addition to supporting the private sector, without referring to the water crisis that President Rashid spoke about during his interview with the ambassador.
Today, Sunday, the foreign press sounded the alarm after Agence France-Presse published a report in which it talked about the drying up of a "large part" of the Euphrates River in Dhi Qar Governorate and some areas of southern Iraq, stressing that the expected escalation of the crisis during next summer will lead to "results." disastrous for the country.
For its part, the Iraqi authorities held Turkey responsible for the drying up of Iraqi rivers, announcing a series of measures to avoid the crisis by releasing quantities of water from the Iraqi reservoirs, which was mentioned by President Abdul Latif Rashid during his interview with the American ambassador, according to the official statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic.
The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, indicated, during his meeting today with the US Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanovsky, the importance of the New York Water Conference adopting radical solutions to the water file and climate change, as Iraq is one of the countries most affected by water scarcity and drought.
