    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Saturday, the list of the United Iraq Turkmen Front demanded the inclusion of Article (35) related to the Kirkuk governorate in the election law.
The front said in a statement received by (Baghdad Today) that it "calls on all parliamentary blocs in the Iraqi parliament to support the demands of the people of Kirkuk governorate, to include Article (35) of Kirkuk governorate in the election law."
The front added that, "Since 2008, the components of Kirkuk have agreed on the necessity of checking the voter registry, due to the additions that occurred to the voter registry from non-provincials, and this was proven by the reports of the United Nations Mission in Iraq," noting that "these demands were repeated to check the voter registry and to sign all the components of the governorates." in 2018 and 2019.
She pointed out that "the Federal Court's decision (11 in 2010) has proved beyond any doubt that relying on the ration card as a basis for the voter register lacks accuracy and called for the need to find other bases for organizing the voter register."
The United Iraq Turkmen Front indicated that "the letters received from the Ministry of Commerce to the Kirkuk Governorate recently and what was stated in the Federal Court's decision indicated that there are more than (300) thousand voters in the Kirkuk Governorate who are not from the governorate," indicating that "the failure to check the voter register means that The elected provincial council does not represent the people of Kirkuk and will not succeed in serving the people of the province.
And she emphasized, according to the statement, that "the issue of Kirkuk and preserving it is a national cause and defending it is the criterion of true patriotism. The parliamentary blocs have always been keen to preserve the province of Kirkuk by supporting its representatives and voting for their common vision, and for the knowledge of the parliamentary blocs that abandoning the issue of Kirkuk is forsaking the unity of Iraq."
And she stressed that "today's session in the House of Representatives will be a watershed point, and history will record the positions of the political blocs keen on the unity of Iraq and the privacy of Kirkuk through the support of representatives of the province demanding the inclusion of Article 35 for voting on it and adding it to the election law."
Earlier, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan objected to Article (35) of the election law.
The leader of the Union, Hedayat Taher, told (Baghdad Today), that "this article is a clear targeting of the Kurds, as they constitute the majority in Kirkuk, and there is a fear of their clear control over the provincial council, and stopping the exclusivity of the governor."
