Today, Friday, the Unified Anbar Alliance revealed the existence of mediation to resolve the dispute between Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani and Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi.
The leader of the coalition, Muhammad Daham, told (Baghdad Today) that: "The dispute between al-Sudani and al-Halbousi is caused by an attempt to extend the legislative authority over the executive, and this is what the prime minister did not allow," he said.
And Dahham said, "There is mediation led by both the leader of the Al-Fatah Alliance, Hadi al-Amiri, and the head of the Wisdom Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, in order to end the dispute between al-Sudani and al-Halbousi," noting that "until this moment, the dispute still exists despite the mediations between the two parties."
It is noteworthy that political sources revealed yesterday the details of a stormy meeting held between Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi and Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, to end the rift between them as a result of the dispute over a number of files, especially the financial budget for the year 2023.
The sources said, "Khamis al-Khanjar, leader of the Sunni Sovereignty Coalition, hosted at his home in Baghdad, last Tuesday, al-Halbousi and al-Sudani, for an iftar banquet to end the dispute between them."
She explained that "Al-Sudani informed Al-Halbousi during the meeting that he has no right to interfere in the executive matters of the state, and the need to abide within the limits of his presidency of Parliament, and not to issue directives to ministers or governors in the provinces liberated from ISIS (Anbar, Nineveh, Kirkuk, Salah al-Din)."
The sources pointed out, "Al-Sudani warned Al-Halbousi against disrupting the government's decisions in the manner he used to follow during the era of the prime ministers of the two previous governments, especially with regard to passing the financial budget, which caused the failure of the meeting between them at Al-Khanjar's house."
