After years of tug-of-war that made Sinjar district a scene of internal war led by armed factions supported by internal and external parties, the displacement of thousands may finally end, and the two "administrations" that dispute over Sinjar may finally be unified.
Close government sources confirmed Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani's intention to implement the Sinjar agreement during the coming period and to finish the file, which is one of the most prominent and complex files after 2014.
The representative of Sinjar, Mahma Khalil, said, in an interview with "Al-Sabah", that "the Sudanese committed himself during his presentation of the government program to draw up the Sinjar Agreement, according to provisions set by the government," noting that "the provisions include the appointment of 2,500 security men as a policeman, in addition to the reconstruction judiciary and provision of all services.
Khalil added, "The implementation of the agreement is in the interest of Iraq first, especially with the absence of an alternative or solution to this issue without its implementation," wondering: "Isn't 9 years of displacement, genocide, cemeteries, political conflicts, and lack of services sufficient, with the presence of illegal intruders on the land of the judiciary?"
He pointed out that "Sinjar is not the issue of one component, but rather the issue of Iraq, which is the bloody wound, and its stability means the stability of Nineveh and the country," stressing that "the representatives of the judiciary will present a number of demands to the Prime Minister, the Speaker of Parliament and the political blocs to restore Sinjar's rights and compensate its people in all respects." He added, "The United Nations, which is a key partner, was absent from the issue of Sinjar and efforts to fully normalize its situation."
The Sinjar Agreement dates back to October 9, 2020, after the federal government agreed with the Kurdistan Regional Government to normalize the situation by jointly managing the judiciary in terms of services, security and administration.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, Ali Jhakir, told Al-Sabah that "the most prominent obstacles to ending the Sinjar displaced file are due to the political agreement concluded between Baghdad and the region, and that this matter requires practical steps."
Jhakir continued, "Work is underway to finalize these steps, because the work is intertwined between several parties," noting that "the Ministry of Immigration will reap the fruits of the agreement by urging the responsible authorities to end the file in a broader and larger way."
For his part, political analyst and member of the State of Law Coalition, Wael al-Rikabi, said: "The issue of the areas damaged by ISIS gangs and the files of displacement and displacement resulting from them, is now subject to consensus and the development of real plans and effective visions for the process of returning the displaced and restoring stability in general."
Al-Rikabi explained to "Al-Sabah" that "the Sinjar file is a contentious file due to the belief that there are political problems, but in fact it is an Iraqi file, even if the parties disagree about it," noting that "Sinjar can never be placed in obstructing the government's work, and Al-Sudani spends the day Quietly, to put points on the letters within the Iraqi national decision and not within the external decision."
