The Governor of Diwaniyah, Eng. Maytham Al-Shahd, announced the assignment of 51 service projects within the food security allocations and the preparation of new projects that will be implemented within the governorate’s allocations for the current year, in addition to coordination with foreign companies to stimulate investment, while he praised the role of the Prime Minister in correcting the course of reconstruction and services in the province, especially after his directives to be Priority for infrastructure development.
Al-Shahd said in a statement to "Al-Sabah": The measures taken by Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani with regard to the governorate led to the speedy completion of lagging projects, including the Republic Bridge, and the achievement of advanced completion rates in other projects.
He added that the Prime Minister's recommendations focused on allocating food security projects to the infrastructure that Diwaniyah lacks, which put the reconstruction movement on the right track.
Al-Shahd pointed out that the governorate adopted an integrated action plan to improve the level of services through the implementation of campaigns by service departments, despite the challenges of lack of machinery and workers, indicating the local government’s intention to contract with a discreet cleaning company for the purpose of overcoming the problem of waste removal, especially since the recent appointments were not well thought out.
He stated that the contracts department in the governorate office had referred 51 projects within the food security allocations, with 20 other projects in the process of being referred, which included different sectors, while an operations room was formed to prepare a plan concerned with regional development projects for the current year, and to communicate with the district and sub-district administrations to find out the most prominent service needs. .
The governor emphasized raising the level of local government coordination with ministries and government institutions to implement a package of service projects due to the lack of financial allocations that Diwaniyah receives compared to its service needs, explaining that coordination included allocating a plot of land to establish a 200-bed hospital by the Abbasid shrine and 180 schools within the Chinese project and the city of Financial, with continued coordination of paving 42 residential neighborhoods by the Ministry of Municipalities and sewer networks in three districts and other necessary service projects.
He referred to taking measures to tighten control over the work of government departments and institutions, replace negligent managers, open new outlets for citizens to communicate with the concerned authorities to report suspicious cases, allocate one day a week to meet citizens, listen to their complaints and suggestions, and find appropriate legal solutions.
Regarding the reality of agriculture in Diwaniyah, Al-Shahd explained that the Supreme Agricultural Committee is currently intensifying its efforts to ensure the success of the wheat marketing process and for marketers to obtain their dues, as the quantities marketed have reached 110,000 tons so far and are expected to rise to 200,000 tons in the next few days.
And he added that the local government issued decisions aimed at the need to identify the needs and requirements of the agricultural sector in order to achieve a jump in the production and quality of various summer and winter crops, especially since the governorate is of an agricultural nature.
Regarding the procedures for revitalizing the investment sector, Al-Shahd noted that the Investment Authority provided many opportunities and provided facilities for foreign and local companies wishing to engage in the investment experience in Diwaniyah.
And he indicated that he met with delegations of Turkish and Chinese investment companies recently to discuss the possibility of establishing energy, electricity, health, roads, bridges, reconstruction, economy and commercial airport projects.
