    Baghdad today - Baghdad
After intensive and lengthy meetings with ministers and governors, the Parliamentary Finance Committee "failed" to reduce the deficit in the federal budget for the year 2023.
A member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Jamal Cougar, told (Baghdad Today) that “the percentage of the fiscal deficit in the budget law will remain the same without any change, as well as the general total will remain the same, as there is a restriction not to make any manipulation in the general total sent by the Iraqi government, and for this There is no deficit reduction."
And Cougar stated, “The committee worked during the last period to make some transfers, so about 5 trillion were transferred between the paragraphs of the law, and we also worked to amend some articles, with the addition of approximately 15 new articles to the law, without adding financial allocations, because this is not our prerogative.” We have an oversight role, and this role is focused on perusing and knowing all the paragraphs and provisions of the budget law.”
He added, "The committee hosted most of the ministers, independent bodies, and governors in order to view the details of the budget for these agencies, so that it can monitor what will be spent after approving the budget, and this is the basis of its oversight role."
In March 2023, the Council of Ministers approved the draft law for the country’s general budget for the year 2023, with a deficit of $48.5 billion, and referred it to Parliament for review and opinion before its approval and transfer to the President.
The media office of the President of the Council stated in a statement, "The Council of Ministers approved the draft federal budget law for the fiscal years 2023, 2024 and 2025."
The quantities of crude oil exports in the 2023 budget will amount to about 3.5 million barrels per day, of which 400 thousand barrels per day will be via the Kurdistan region.
Earlier, Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani confirmed that the draft general federal budget law that was voted on will be repeated for three years, indicating that the Ministries of Finance and Planning can make amendments with the approval of the House of Representatives in the event of changes in numbers, oil prices or quantities.
