A number of financial and economic experts identified a number of challenges facing the Iraqi economy, pointing to the need to find the basic drivers for achieving economic development, and to enact supportive laws to stimulate "industrial, agricultural and commercial" economic activities to make it flexible, efficient and able to provide competitive goods through an integrated economic program.
The ministerial program of the government of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani identified a package of reforms that he seeks to advance, placing "economic reform" at the forefront of those priorities that the government seeks to achieve, while economists believe that what has been achieved on the ground so far in terms of economic reforms is "well".
Advisor to the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers for Public Policies, Manaf Al-Sayegh told Al-Sabah that the country needs real capital capable of entering into productive investments, not consumer investments, for the private and government sectors, pointing out that the accumulation of capital enables it to enter into productive investments as well. Creating new investments capable of creating job opportunities and producing new commodities.
He added that the country currently owns capital, but the problem lies in "managing money" and creating real investments capable of employing it in a way that leads to financial savings at the end of each year and ensuring that it is not lost, pointing out at the same time that "human resources are available, but they do not have Real knowledge with which to manage national industries or to establish other productive industries capable of producing competitive commodities.
Al-Saegh promised to work in the private sector as an active partner to absorb unemployment and provide job opportunities for the unemployed, stressing the need to find supportive and facilitating laws to activate its role in the economic process.
The House of Wisdom had organized an economic symposium entitled "Legal Protection of the Iraqi Economy in Light of the Current Regional and International Challenges to Achieve the National Interest", which was attended by a group of economists and researchers.
The symposium, which was attended by "Al-Sabah", included four axes. The first was "The Constitutional and Legal Framework for Protecting the Iraqi Economy" by Dr. Wael Munther Al-Bayati, while the second axe was titled "The Iraqi Floating Economy in the Iraqi Budget" by Dr. Mazhar Muhammad Salih, Financial Adviser to the Prime Minister, in which he discussed intellectual premises. The most important of which is financial sustainability, which is the government's ability to maintain revenues for as long as possible without any difficult requirements.
The third axis also included discussing the economic policy system of Iraq with neighboring countries, while the human rights dean, Ahmed Jumaa Al-Saadi, Director of Organized Crime Control, reviewed, in the fourth axis, the legal and procedural system of the state to protect the Iraqi consumer, as he indicated the need to increase legal legislation in light of the changes that occurred in Iraq after 2003 to adapt and conform to the political and economic changes taking place in the country.
On the one hand, the President of the International Federation of Businessmen, Dr. Hamid Al-Aqabi, said in an interview with "Al-Sabah" that "the country suffers from several challenges at the level of legislation related to the legal protection of the Iraqi economy, criticizing dumping the country with products of various origins that lack specifications that would protect the consumer.
Al-Aqabi also explained the importance of finding a formula through which the citizen can choose the best commodity and activate the role of quality control and provide him with facts for his optimal selection, hinting at the importance of activating the role of the private sector and not relying on neighboring countries to import inferior goods.
