The “mystery” of Iranian gas debts.. Electricity confirms that all amounts have been paid, and Parliament holds the “TBI” responsible

On Sunday, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity renewed its assertion that it had paid all the debts it owed from importing Iranian gas to feed power plants, while the distribution sector is witnessing a deterioration in the supply of electricity.
The official spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Musa, said, “The Ministry of Electricity is not concerned with transferring funds to the Iranian side for importing gas, and that the Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI) is concerned with paying debts and financial transfers to the Iranian side.”
He added, "The ministry paid the money in full to the Iraqi Trade Bank for the value of the gas supplied from Iran to Iraq."
In turn, a member of the Parliamentary Electricity Committee, Kamel Al-Ugaili, confirmed that “a delegation from the Parliamentary Electricity Committee visited the Ministry of Electricity and met with its officials to find out the reasons for the decline in the hours of supplying electric power and the decrease in gas supplied from Iran to Iraq.”
And he indicated that “the ministry is transferring the funds allocated to paying the Iranian raid to the Trade Bank of Iraq, and the main problem of the electricity crisis is borne by the bank and whoever deposited the money and signed the contract with the bank.”
Al-Aqili added, “The money that was deposited by the Ministry of Electricity in favor of Iran in the bank amounted to more than three billion dollars as debts for the gas supplied for the past three years, and Iran reduced the proportion of the supplied gas due to not receiving the previous debts.”
He pointed out that "the bank is committed to the instructions of the ban imposed on Iran related to not doing business with it, and therefore it cannot transfer or deliver the money of the Iranian gas resource to Tehran."
This comes at a time when Iraq has been witnessing, for several days, a significant decline in the supply of electric current due to the decrease in the supply of Iranian gas feeding power plants.
In turn, he blamed the coordination framework in the US administration's statement for the decline in the supply of electric power.
"The country is witnessing a crisis that is burdening the Iraqi citizen because of the lack of supply in electricity hours in light of the difficult climatic conditions and the high temperatures," the framework said.
He added, "After following up, investigating and clarifying the reasons, the coordination framework calls on the Iraqi government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to contact the American side and push it to immediately release the financial dues resulting from the import of Iranian gas without delay or procrastination, and not to use this file politically to avoid its negative repercussions on the Iraqi citizen."
However, the Iranian side announced earlier that it had received all debts owed by the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity.
On July 3, the head of the Iranian-Iraqi Chamber of Commerce, Yahya Al-Ishaq, said that Iraq had paid Iranian dues amounting to $10 billion.
The head of the Chamber of Commerce added, in statements reported by IRNA, that these sums were deposited in the Iraqi Trade Bank, after it was agreed that these sums would be spent to purchase commodities that were not covered by the embargo imposed on Iran.
On the other hand, Iran is currently witnessing a shortage in domestic gas production, according to statements by Iranian officials.
Yesterday, Saturday, a government source in Diyala province said, “The Iranian side stopped the two electricity lines across Diyala, Khanaqin - Sarbil Zahab (1 + 2) 132 KV, and Diyala - Mirsad 400 KV, which caused long interruptions and lack of supply, ranging from 8-10 hours per day. ".
And he indicated that "the Iranian side stopped the Diyala power supply line due to the lack of surplus energy, which caused a long power outage."
