    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Saturday (August 5, 2023), the Secretary-General of the Tishreen Front, Wathiq Lafta, considered the demonstrations and protests against the "Kuwaiti abuses" as being directed at the ruling authorities in Iraq, as the demonstrations are the first deterrent to the "deviation" of the ruling class from protecting state sovereignty, as he put it.
Lafta said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", that "without a doubt, popular forces are considered one of the most important foundations of any political process in all countries, and that they are the first source of authority, so when you find the ruling class deviating from the protection and sovereignty of the state, you always find these forces confronting any failure in its management.
He added that "today the rulers are not trustees of the rights, resources and sovereignty of the country, so many of the protest forces have confronted in demonstrations and vigils moved by their conscience and their love for the homeland, unlike the claimants of patriotism who have stolen the country in power, so the protests and demonstrations are very necessary to expose the corrupt and create a public opinion in front of the people for what It is happening".
The Secretary-General of the Tishreen Front added, "The protest is considered one of the most important pressure cards on any government that tries to forfeit the land of the Iraqi state. This is the right of the people, not the rulers. As for the level of influence, it is proportionately proportional to the seriousness and scale of the events."
Yesterday, Friday (August 4, 2023), the security forces prevented dozens of demonstrators from entering Basra Governorate to protest against the "Umm Qasr" issue.
The "Baghdad Today" correspondent said, "The authorities prevented the entry of demonstrators coming from other provinces at the entrance to Sidra control in Basra governorate."
He explained, "The demonstrators are coming from other Iraqi provinces to Basra to protest against the handing over of some parts of the city of Umm Qasr to Kuwait."
The latest statement by Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in which he spoke about “the promises made by the governor of Basra regarding the removal of Iraqi homes in Umm Qasr and handing over its areas to Kuwait,” caused an uproar in official and popular circles.
