    Baghdad today - Kurdistan
Today, Thursday (August 10, 2023), a former member of the Natural Resources Committee in the Kurdistan Region Parliament, Jihad Hassan, held the federal government responsible for the fuel crisis in the region, noting that the people of the center and south began to settle in the region and the demand rose more than the volume of the region’s production .
Hassan said in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "Baghdad has stopped sending the share of the Kurdistan region of fuel, and there is pressure on the region as a result of the population increase and the stability of thousands of families from the center and south in the cities of the region, and the Kurdistan refineries cannot secure the required amount."
He added, "The decision to open imports to merchants will meet the high demand of citizens, especially in the summer, and thus will contribute to lowering prices, but whoever will contribute to reducing prices significantly is sending the region's share by the federal government."
And he indicated that "the decision does not mean the regional government's inability to produce fuel locally, on the contrary, it produces good quantities, but it cannot meet the high need, and it will not affect the rise in the dollar exchange rate at all, and we hope that the region's share of fuel will be returned to resolve the crisis once and for all."
The cities of the Kurdistan region are witnessing a crisis in the price of gasoline, as the price of one liter of regular gasoline has reached 750 dinars.
And the Acting Minister of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Regional Government, Kamal Muhammad Salih, and in implementation of the requests of some governors and officials of independent administrative units, issued a ministerial order to give authority to gas station owners to import gasoline.
He also pointed out that imported gasoline must be in accordance with the specifications set by the committees of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
