The General Tax Authority announced that the administrative changes it made during the past few months resulted in raising the ceiling for tax collections to 146 percent within the border crossings.
The head of the authority affiliated with the Ministry of Finance, Ali Waad Allawi, said in a statement to "Al-Sabah": The authority took a set of measures that contributed to raising the ceiling of deposits obtained from border outlets by 146 percent, which he attributed to field visits and the change of employees who have exceeded two years and their return to their branches in accordance with the law.
He mentioned that what has been achieved in a few months has reached more than two trillion dinars, and it is hoped that at the end of this year the amount will reach three trillion dinars, stressing that changes will be made for all those who have exceeded four years from the heads of branches. Allawi added that the authority has a plan to increase the rates of tax collections to six trillion dinars during the next year, provided that the tax system is implemented in Iraq, especially since the authority has begun to implement the (POS) system according to the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, revealing that smart devices will be deployed during Next week in all branches of the authority.
It is noteworthy that the initiation of the point-of-sale (POS) experiment falls within the priorities of the Ministry of Finance in line with what was stated in the government program, and by adopting the devices on a large scale by defining the foundations, standards and digital infrastructure necessary to activate the electronic payment process for payments and reduce dependence on its paper counterpart.
In the same context, the head of the authority stated that his department requested, in an official letter from all departments, to nominate employees with a good reputation and possess the competence and ability to work in the outlets, revealing the formation of a committee whose work revolves around evaluating all heads of branches and heads of departments in accordance with the interest of the work. He referred to making visits to some countries for the purpose of preventing double taxation and reducing the phenomenon of evasion, which resulted in the conclusion of an agreement to prevent double taxation between Iraq and Pakistan and before that between him and the region.
