Shafaq News/ The Human Rights Committee in the Iraqi parliament stressed, on the occasion of the International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearance, the need to expedite the enactment of the "Enforced Disappearance Law".

In a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, she said, "On the International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearance, corresponding to August 30, we all stand affected by crimes that violate human rights and are prohibited under international law. The definition of enforced disappearance means each of the victims of individuals who are arrested, kidnapped, and detained in Bad places and conditions by responsible persons in the government or certain extremist bodies and organizations such as ISIS terrorist organizations and others. Their fate is not known, and their families and those who represent them legally do not know their true fate. Their fate is known and there is no information about them."
She added that the file of enforced disappearance is a file related to human rights and Iraq signed the law on the accession of the Republic of Iraq to the International Convention for the Protection of Persons from Enforced Disappearance No. 17 of 2009.
Therefore, the committee called, according to the statement, on the government "to send the draft law as soon as possible for the purpose of voting on it, in addition to working with the government and civil society organizations to prepare an official database registered for the forcibly disappeared, and to cooperate with the International Committee on Enforced Disappearances in accordance with the provisions of the agreement signed by Iraq to reduce cases of Enforced disappearance and reparation for the moral and material harm to the families of the victims who have suffered the loss of the fate of their relatives and families, and to pay attention to them by providing them with justice by enacting the law as soon as possible.
