, Member of the House of Representatives for the State of Law, Mohan Al-Saadi, said: The provincial council elections will take place on the scheduled date next December.
Al-Saadi explained to “Al-Sabah” that all parties, including the Commission, the government, and the security services, are ready and working to organize the elections on the specified date, stressing that the Commission will approve the nominated names during the coming days.
He added that holding the elections on time is very important to fill the constitutional vacuum, as Article 198 of the Constitution contains five paragraphs related to the work of the provincial councils, and their absence is considered a constitutional defect that is invalid, neither from a legal nor from a constitutional standpoint, indicating that Parliament follows the provisions of the Constitution
Regarding the events in Kirkuk, Al-Saadi explained that the opinion of the government and the Commission is in favor of holding elections, and there has not yet been a discussion on the issue of canceling them in Kirkuk, as the events can be dealt with if there is sufficient time for that, stressing that all governorates that are not organized into a region will hold elections according to the law
