Shafaq News/ The Iraqi meteorologist, Muhammad Ali, commented today, Tuesday, on the statement of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, that “climate collapse has begun,” in response to a report by the European Copernicus Observatory regarding the average global temperature in the last three months recording the highest levels on record. Launch.

Ali told Shafaq News Agency, “An annoying, worrying, and unfortunate statement issued by the Secretary-General of the United Nations commenting on a report by the European Copernicus Observatory regarding recording the average global temperature in the last three months (June, July, August), the highest levels ever since the start of recording.”

He explained, “The Secretary-General did not agree with this description (climate collapse has begun), which led some of those in a hurry to link climatic events (Greece and Libya) and geological events (Morocco) to the issue of a hidden conspiracy and the issue of a runaway project.”
The meteorologist added, “Indeed, these statements made some people worry about the expected violent climate changes, and people need someone to reassure them, not someone to frighten them with such extreme statements,” stressing that “these cases are considered normal and occur in all decades.”

Last Wednesday, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said that “climate collapse has begun,” in a statement he issued commenting on the Copernicus Observatory’s announcement that the Northern Hemisphere’s summer was the hottest on record.

Guterres stressed, "Scientists have long been warning about the repercussions of our dependence on fossil fuels," adding, "The climate is exploding faster than our ability to cope with extreme weather phenomena that strike all corners of the Earth."

The Cambridge Dictionary describes climate collapse as “extremely dangerous and harmful changes in the world’s weather, which has become warmer due to human activity that leads to an increase in the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.”

The United Nations considers the changes that have reached the stage of “climate collapse” to be “the decisive crisis of our current era, and it is happening more quickly than we feared,” according to previous statements by Guterres in September of last year.
