    Today, Sunday (September 17, 2023), the Ministry of Transport announced that the Silo Al-Sharqat line in Salah al-Din Governorate will soon be restarted, after it was stopped for more than 30 years.
    A statement by the Ministry's media office, received by "Baghdad Today", said, "The engineering and technical cadres of the General Company for Iraqi Railways, with the support of Minister Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, and the direct supervision of Director General Younis Khaled Jawad, began rehabilitating the Silo Al-Sharqat lines, after they were... Stopped for 30 years.
    He added, "Activating this line is considered a major achievement, as this line delivers wheat from the southern port of Umm Qasr to be unloaded via the branch line connecting to the Shirqat Silo of the Ministry of Commerce, in support of the food basket."
    The statement stressed, “Fulfilling the official contracts between the Railways Administration and the General Grain Trading Company, in support of the food basket for the people of the northern region, and increasing the company’s financial resources,” noting, “The Shirqat silo is one of the largest silos in the country, with its storage capacity reaching 180,000 tons.”
    The Ministry's statement noted that "the line connecting the Silo was subjected to sabotage and terrorist acts and the theft of railway components."
    The statement explained, “The silo has been linked to the Wadi al-Murr station so that the main line between Baghdad and Mosul connects to this silo,” indicating, “There is a branch line of approximately 7-8 km,” indicating that “This line has been completely reconstructed and rehabilitated, and now it is ready to receive it.” Loads of wheat from the port of Umm Qasr, after the violations on the railway line were removed.”
    Transport revealed that “the line will be opened next Tuesday as a first stage to receive the first shipment of imported wheat,” stressing that “this is the first time that the silo receives the first shipment of grains on behalf of the Ministry of Commerce and the transfer of the ration card items, in order to ensure the arrival of the share of the Nineveh Governorates.” And Saladin, which is fed by Silo Al-Sharqat.”
