The Independent High Electoral Commission sent 93 invitations to diplomatic missions and international organizations to monitor the governorate council elections that will be held on the eighteenth of next December. While the Commission conducted the electronic lottery yesterday, Sunday, to select polling officials, it announced the exclusion of 393 candidates for various reasons.
The head of the Commission's media team, Dr. Imad Jamil, told Al-Sabah: "The Commission sent invitations to diplomatic missions and international organizations interested in electoral affairs," noting that "a portion of those parties participated in the previous elections." He added, "The Commission has received a response from some of these parties, especially since its participation will not only be at the individual level, but there are teams for monitoring, provided that the international registration of them will be in the Relations Division of the Media and Mass Communication Department in the National Office of the Commission." He stated that "the commission will approve the names of the candidates for the irregular provincial council elections in the region at the beginning of next month, after which the electoral campaign for them will be launched throughout Baghdad and the provinces," and he added that "the fourth simulation will be conducted in the middle of next November to be a model product free of errors as it will be the last." before the electoral process. Regarding the controls of advertising campaigns for entities, political parties, and candidates in the elections, Jamil said: “These controls reached the candidates, as the task of following up on the mechanism of disseminating electoral propaganda was assigned to the Baghdad Municipality.” He added, “There will be financial fines that will be imposed on violating candidates, and they may be doubled if the candidate does not respond and file the violation.” He pointed out that “the Commission has 906 monitoring teams that have actually begun their work,” and explained that “the date for announcing the launch of electoral propaganda will be during the first week.” From next November. Yesterday, Sunday, the Election Commission conducted the electronic lottery for polling officials for the irregular governorate council elections in the region for the year 2023. Commission spokesperson Jumana Al-Ghalai said: “The number of applicants is approximately one million, but the Board of Commissioners approved more than 600,000 applicants in accordance with the conditions and controls.” established by the Election Commission,” noting that “the Commission needs more than 200,000 polling personnel for the purpose of participating in the election day scheduled for next December 18.” Al-Ghalai also announced that “393 candidates who submitted their names officially to the Commission were excluded, and most of these were excluded as a result of the procedures of the Accountability and Justice Commission, numbering 240 people. 54 were excluded due to criminal records, 46 due to corruption, 12 because they were affiliated with the security services, and eight because of deficiencies in their files.” . Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior announced the completion of all security preparations for the electoral process. Ministry spokesman Miqdad al-Moussawi said: “With regard to the security plan for holding the local elections, all preparations have been completed, as several security exercises have been carried out, and in the coming days there will be an exercise similar to the original plan.” Regarding the security plan for the elections, security expert Fadel Abu Ragheef said: “According to the indicators, the plan does not include road blockages, and situational assessments will remain as needed. With regard to terrorist targets, we rule out that there will be any exposure and that Iraq has become completely safe.” Governorate council elections are scheduled to be held on December 18, and these will be the first local elections held since April 2013.
