Today, Wednesday, the Ministry of Transport clarified its procedures regarding the railway connection with Iran, and while confirming the approval of its route, it indicated that the project constitutes an essential pillar for strengthening the infrastructure of the Iraqi economy.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport, Shatha Radi, said, “The Ministry is working on following up on the technical and strategic plans and determining the routes, schedule of quantities, bridges, and initial and final stations for the railway link project between Iraq and Iran to transport passengers, and the Basra Governorate departments have completed approval of the project’s route.”
Radhi added, "The Ministry worked to follow up on the project through personal inspection field visits by the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, as he had a recent visit to the Shalamcheh port and met with the responsible cadres and with the Basra Governorate, as well as the Director General of Iraqi Ports and officials of the border crossings, to find out the most prominent belongings and manuscripts." Regarding the implementation of this project, the areas containing mines that are being removed have been identified.”
She stressed that "railway connectivity constitutes a fundamental pillar in strengthening the infrastructure of the Iraqi economy, as well as enabling Iraq to communicate with neighboring countries and countries of Central Asia."
She continued, "The Iranian side has taken care of removing the mines that have accompanied the railway route since the war in the 1980s, in addition to constructing the navigation bridge on the Shatt al-Arab, and the length of the road with the railway line will reach 36 kilometers." End 29
