The General Railways Company of the Ministry of Transportation revealed, on Sunday, new developments related to the file of the rail link between Iraq and Iran.
The General Director of the General Railways Company, Talib Jawad Al-Husseini, said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, which was followed by Al-Iktissad News, that "the coming days will witness discussion of what was mentioned by signing the memorandum of understanding to start implementing work on the railway link between Al-Shalamjah and Basra."
He added that "the link is of special importance as a vital strategic line," expressing his hope that "the link will reach the implementation stage in the coming days, after the government announces its approval."
Last Thursday, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi announced that negotiations with Iran to build a railway between Basra and Shalamjah had reached their final stages.
