The tensions taking place in the region are escalating against the backdrop of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation, and security developments have emerged that extend beyond the scope of the Palestinian territories, especially with the continued bombing of American bases in Iraq and Syria, calls to close its embassy in Iraq, the exchange of bombings on the southern Lebanon front, and the Houthis’ official announcement Entering a war against Israel.
In this regard, Member of Parliament Amer Al-Fayez stated that the Iraqi government will never consider closing the American embassy or other foreign embassies, considering that this will place Iraq in international isolation after it has regained its leadership role in the region and the world.
Al-Fayez said in a press interview seen by Taqaddam, “Any unilateral decision taken by Iraq to sever relations or close embassies without Arab countries coming together will place Iraq in the category of diplomatic, political, and even economic isolation, which will cast a shadow over Iraqi interests.”
He added, "Iraq was able to achieve many international gains and attain an important and prominent position among the countries of the world, while restoring its diplomatic and political position among the countries of the region."
Al-Fayez added, “Taking any step toward closing embassies will greatly harm Iraq,” pointing out that “demanding the closure of the American embassy in Baghdad and other demands will not change the situation in Palestine and will not affect the reality of the field battle there.”
He continued, "There are other ways to protest the Palestinian situation, which should be followed apart from closing embassies or using the language of weapons. It is also possible to use other means to put pressure and find solutions for the region."
