    Economist Nabil Al-Marsoumi said today, Tuesday, that the Iraqi private sector imported goods worth more than $37 billion in 2022.
    Al-Marsoumi wrote in a blog post on his personal account on the Facebook platform, followed by “Al-Iqtisad News,” that “the value of goods imported through official outlets and registered in the General Authority of Customs did not exceed $16.6 billion, even though the private sector imported a value of more than $37 billion.” .
    Al-Marsoumi pointed out that “the value of imported and officially registered goods did not exceed 16.6 billion dollars, compared to goods worth more than 20 billion dollars that were imported through Kurdistan ports or from unofficial ports, meaning that only 44% of the imports were through official ports.” .
    On the sixth of last August, the Iraqi Border Ports Authority revealed the existence of 11 ports in the Kurdistan region, 6 of which are officially recognized by the authorities in Baghdad, and 5 others are unofficial, indicating the existence of a plan to link Kurdistan ports to the federal government ports as soon as possible.
    Director of the Iraqi Border Ports Authority, Omar Al-Waeli, said in previous press statements: “The government has a tendency to impose the state’s prestige on the ports of the region that are not subject to its control,” noting that “the region owns 5 border ports that are not officially recognized by the federal government in Baghdad.”
    He pointed out that "the governments of Baghdad and Erbil will soon move on the ports of Kurdistan," noting that "this will take place after completing control over the other ports that fall under the responsibility of the federal government." 
    The Director General of Kurdistan Customs, Samal Abdul Rahman, revealed in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “there are 8 official border crossings in the region registered with the Iraqi government,” and added: “Our direct connection is with the Ministry of Finance in the regional government, and revenues go to the aforementioned ministry.”
    He says, "We have full commitment to the decisions issued by the federal government and its various ministries regarding preventing the import of certain materials. As for managing the ports or delivering them to Baghdad, we have not received any new guidance in this regard, and this matter is within the jurisdiction of the regional government."
