Today, Monday (December 4, 2023), Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani directed the Ministry of Finance to allocate a budget for the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections.
Jumana Ghalai, spokeswoman for the High Electoral Commission, said in a press statement to Kurdish media, “Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani directed the Ministry of Finance to allocate a budget for the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections.”
She added, “The Commission is continuing, according to its agenda, to make preparations for the Kurdistan Parliament elections, and the elections will be held on the specified date.”
The sixth session of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections is scheduled to be held on February 25, 2024, under the direct supervision of the Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq.
Iraqi provincial council elections are scheduled to be held on December 18 in 15 governorates, excluding the Kurdistan region, and about 23 million Iraqis are entitled to vote.
Since 2003, Iraq has known three local elections, the first in 2005, followed by the 2009 elections, then the 2013 elections, but Kirkuk Governorate only witnessed one electoral cycle, which was held in 2005.[/size]
