Today, Wednesday, a member of the Oil and Gas Committee in the Iraqi House of Representatives, Kazem Al-Touki, revealed a “lobby” to support contracts with private companies in the oil sector. While he considered the oil tanker company a “loser,” he confirmed that the Oil Ministry’s funds were being “drained.”

Al-Touki said in an interview with the “After Investigation” program broadcast on Al-Sumaria TV, “There was a committee formed by the Parliamentary Oil Committee regarding the transportation and export of Qayyarah refinery oil, in order to investigate the details of the issue, study it, and the mechanism of the contracts that were announced, the tender, and its directions.”

The report stated, according to Al-Touki, that “the project was referred to the State Tanker Company at a rate of $16 per barrel, and in this regard the committee’s opinion was divided into two parts. The first saw that this price was high and went towards contracting with private companies at a lower price, while the second trend went towards The vision of maintaining the contract with the tanker company according to the principle that what is paid to the government company will remain in the state treasury and will not come out of it.”

The member of the House of Representatives continued, “The State Oil Tanker Company is a losing company and has faced many problems,” pointing out that “The Iraqi Oil Marketing Company ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]) has referred many contracts to private companies to distribute oil without referring them to the Tanker Company.”

He explained, "The company only owns 4 marine tankers at the present time, after it owned 14 tankers in the era of the previous regime," noting that the various Iraqi wars caused the loss of these tankers, leading to them being sold as "scrap."

Al-Touki pointed out, “Money in the oil sector is being depleted due to contracts with private companies, and there is a lobby that supports the trend towards private companies at very high prices in order to provide benefit to some figures.”
