Yesterday, Monday, the Ministry of Industry and Minerals revealed the reasons why Russian companies stopped reconstructing and rehabilitating projects (7) factories at the General Company for Glass and Ceramics in Anbar Governorate.
The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, Doha Al-Jubouri, said during an interview with Al-Mada, “The Russian companies in the General Company for Glass and Ceramics in Anbar Governorate are not suspended because they have not begun any work in the General Company.”
She added, “The companies did not achieve a completion rate in seven projects at the General Company for Glass and Ceramics,” noting that “the Minister of Industry and Minerals directed that legal measures be taken to terminate the contract with Russian companies.”
Al-Jubouri explains, “The General Company is one of the important strategic industries,” noting that “a comprehensive vision was developed for these industries, and investment projects were proposed during the conferences held by the Ministry, including the General Company for Glass and Ceramics in Anbar.”
The ministry spokeswoman continues, “A contract was concluded with the United Construction Company to establish a sodium carbonate production project in Anbar with a capacity of (90) thousand tons annually.”
For his part, economic expert Taha Al-Janabi said, during an interview with (Al-Mada), that “the process of reconstructing the public company’s factories contributes to strengthening the local economy by providing products that are manufactured locally, and thus supporting the industrial sector and encouraging related commercial activities,” noting that “ Anbar is rich in natural resources such as sand and clay, which are basic materials in the glass and ceramic industry. This reduces the cost of production and increases the ability of these factories to compete.”
He added, “The presence of glass and ceramic factories attracts new investments to Anbar Governorate, whether from local or foreign investors, which contributes to developing infrastructure and improving services.”
The economist continues, “Manufacturing glass and ceramics locally reduces the need to import these products, which reduces the pressure on the local currency and contributes to strengthening the national economy,” stressing that “rehabilitating glass and ceramic factories will create job opportunities for the residents of the governorate, which will help in Reducing unemployment rates and improving the standard of living.”
In addition, the Mayor of Ramadi District in Anbar Governorate, Ibrahim Al-Awsaj, said in press statements, followed by Al-Mada, that “seven glass and ceramic factories in the city of Ramadi stopped being reconstructed and rehabilitated by Russian companies, after the outbreak of their country’s war with Ukraine.”
He added, "The Federation of Russian Companies held talks with Chinese companies to complete the work for them."
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Industry signed a contract two years ago with the Federation of Russian Companies to reconstruct and rehabilitate 7 glass and ceramic factories in the city of Ramadi after they were destroyed by ISIS terrorists.
According to the investment contract concluded between the General Company for Glass and Refractories and the Federation of Russian Companies, it “includes the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the glass panel factory with a capacity of (120) tons/day, the medical bottles factory with a capacity of (95) tons/day, the bottles and jars factory with a capacity of (175) tons/day, and the flat glass factory.” With a capacity of (700) tons/day, a wall plastering plant with a capacity of (6,000) square meters/day, a flooring plastering plant with a capacity of (12,000) square meters/day, and a sanitary ware factory with a capacity of (5,000) tons/year.”
