The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed, on Sunday, that the agricultural calendar program contributed to maintaining price stability, and while it indicated that implementing the program’s decisions rests with the security services, it clarified the mechanism for its implementation.
The ministry’s spokesman, Muhammad al-Khazali, said in a statement reported by the official news agency, and seen by “Al-Iqtisad News,” that “the Ministry of Agriculture is a guidance body concerned with the agricultural sector, and the agricultural calendar program is one of the methods used by the ministry to maintain the principle of price stability in the markets for various agricultural crops.” and plant and animal products.
He added, "Any decision issued by the ministry regarding the agricultural calendar is submitted to the Ministerial Council for the Economy, in order to obtain final approval, after which instructions are given to open the borders to import the commodity or close the borders in the event of a surplus."
He noted that "the program is flexible and has contributed to maintaining price stability in the markets," pointing out that "implementing its decisions and adhering to them falls upon the relevant security authorities, as they take legal measures against violators."
