    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The leader in the coordination framework, Muhammad Al-Bayati, confirmed today, Friday (January 12, 2024), that tomorrow’s session will not decide the choice of the Speaker of the House of Representatives .
Al-Bayati told "Baghdad Today", "The position of Speaker of the House of Representatives is the right of the Sunni component," noting that "there are 3 names put forward for competition at the present time, but there is no consensus within the framework to vote on any of them, and it is not possible to say with certainty whether one is preferred over the other."
He added, "The end of the legislative recess requires Parliament to continue holding its sessions, and the competition for the presidency of the House of Representatives will be between progress and determination to present a candidate who will be the most likely to assume the position."
Al-Bayati pointed out, “The framework is holding intensive meetings at the present time for two important matters, which are developing a road map for the formation of local governments and choosing governors, in addition to developing a mechanism that will be a politically agreed-upon basis for choosing the Speaker of the House of Representatives in coordination with the rest of the partners with the Kurds, Sunnis, and the rest of the other sects.”
He pointed out, "Tomorrow's session may not end with the selection of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, but it will be an important beginning for the major powers to decide on the options."
The House of Representatives has scheduled a session for tomorrow, Saturday, to elect a new president, a replacement for Muhammad al-Halbousi .
A statement from the Media Department of the House of Representatives received by “Baghdad Today” stated, “The House of Representatives session scheduled to be held next Saturday will include the election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.”
The statement stated, "The session will be held at three o'clock in the afternoon."
In mid-November 2023, the Federal Supreme Court ended the presidency of Muhammad al-Halbousi, based on a “forgery” lawsuit filed by one of the representatives .
Following the ruling, the Presidency of the House of Representatives decided to officially terminate the membership of the Speaker of the House, Muhammad al-Halbousi .
Since the end of Al-Halbousi’s membership in the House of Representatives, the Council has held several sessions to elect a new president, but the issue was not raised in those sessions due to the heads of the political blocs not agreeing on the alternative candidate.
