Women compete with men in the world of crime. Poverty increases the phenomenon and social networking sites open the way

Baghdad/ Haider Hisham
Day after day, a new phenomenon appears on the surface of Iraqi society, which is always “negative,” and this is what actually revolves around crimes committed by women, as they have become a phenomenon that threatens the security services. At a time when the community police diagnosed the real reasons behind this phenomenon,
Security experts pointed to the security apparatus’s relationship with the increase in these crimes. The Iraqi security authorities’ announcement of the dismantling of gangs and criminal networks that include women among their ranks has become commonplace on the Iraqi street. Which requires double efforts to catch her, considering that women are more professional and able to maneuver in their crimes.
In recent years, Iraq has witnessed an escalation in violent crimes, including murders, armed robbery, and kidnapping, in which women have become increasingly and significantly involved. This has led to a growing phenomenon of women's crimes in the country, as they practice theft, kidnapping, smuggling, and even participate in drug networks.
Community police revealed the real reasons behind the phenomenon of “crimes” committed by women, while sending a message.
The Director of the Community Police of the Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Nibras Ali, said in an interview with (Al-Mada), “Crimes committed by women do exist, especially in the presence of criminal tendencies that are rooted in the human psyche, in light of the presence of appropriate conditions, which leads to an increase in the number of crimes in some cases.” . He added, “There are procedures by the Ministry of the Interior, in terms of monitoring social problems, researching them, and developing effective solutions to them,” pointing out that “there is a record speed in arrest operations and citizen cooperation with the police in addressing the problems and arresting the perpetrators of these crimes.” Regarding the reasons for the increase in crimes committed by women, Nebras explains, “The many societal problems, including family disintegration, which has become the focus of several crimes, whether at the level of domestic violence or those committed by women or even men.” The director of the community police explains that “there are many reasons behind family disintegration, but the main reason revolves around moving away from original customs and traditions, and the impact of the cyber world and social networking sites on the family structure in general,” stressing that “there is no internal, personal or Even my community to control actions and behaviors that are considered outside the law.” He continues his speech, saying: “We are currently working, as community police, to educate and raise awareness of the dangers of these conditions, such as addiction to social networking sites, raising the cultural level, preventing crime, and strengthening family bonds.” “.
At the administrative level, Ali confirms, “There are facilities provided by the Ministry of Interior, with hotlines, to raise the culture of reporting, in addition to modern technologies that were introduced by order of the Minister of Interior, to be relied upon in order to reduce routine and time, and to arrest criminals very quickly.” He points out, “The procedures of the Ministry of the Interior have reduced these phenomena, but there are circumstances that accompany these actions and behaviors,” addressing citizens and young people who are aware of “the necessity of returning to the original Iraqi customs and traditions and cooperating with the policeman regarding reporting operations, monitoring children, and reducing the period of use of social networking sites.” “Social.” He concludes by saying: “All the mentioned reasons work to undermine all crimes, including crimes committed by women.”
Recently, the rate of women joining organized crime gangs in Iraq has increased, as the gangs have begun to use the female element in the crimes they carry out and are not limited to men only, something that Iraq was not accustomed to previously.
In turn, the security expert, Mukhlid Khaled, considered crimes committed by women in Iraq a “new phenomenon” in society, while highlighting the security apparatus’s relationship with the increase in women’s crimes.
Khaled mentioned, in an interview with (Al-Mada), that “there are several factors that push women to professionalize jobs that were almost exclusively for men, including the economic situation that the country has gone through, in addition to the many cases of divorce and unemployment, which pushed them to find easy work in which they can work.” Considering that suspicions usually revolve around men, especially in Iraqi society.”
He points out that “suspicion towards a woman may be weak if she enters a certain place and commits theft, luring operations, and murder,” considering that “all of these operations are new phenomena that have emerged in Iraqi society, such as organized crime networks and theft, where new cases are always invented.” Far from the thinking of citizens, merchants, or society.”
The expert on security matters explains, “These gangs always choose women, especially modest women, and therefore no suspicions revolve around them,” noting that “organized crime networks have found their way in many of these activities by using women, or even children.”
Khaled continues: “Sometimes, there are cases of women being forced, especially those who may have lived through a difficult period and the absence of financial resources, and who have children, which forces them to work according to these networks, in addition to the weakness of the security apparatus at some point and their exploitation by networks.” Human trafficking or organized crime.” He notes that “the spread of women beggars in the streets and roads, without oversight and without taking deterrent security measures, represents an emergency situation for Iraqi society,” explaining that “the increase in these cases reflects a negative image of Iraqi society and the work of the security apparatus and law enforcement, which is what pushes it toward... Areas that are not appropriate for Iraqi women.” Regarding the most prominent arrests that targeted women’s gangs in Baghdad and the governorates during the past year and the beginning of this year, we mention what the Ministry of Interior announced about the arrest of four women and a man who detained a girl for the purpose of trading her in Baghdad.
For its part, the Federal Police Command announced, in August of last year, the overthrow of a human trafficking gang consisting of 4 defendants, including three women, in Baghdad.
In turn, on September 12, 2023, the Babylon Police Command revealed the details of a horrific crime against a child who was betrayed in the Alexandria district of the governorate, indicating that preliminary information indicates that one of the parties to the crime is a 36-year-old woman. In August 2023, security forces arrested a women's gang involved in an armed robbery of a bank in Baghdad.
In September 2023, security forces arrested a women’s gang involved in kidnapping a child in front of his house. It is noteworthy that the security authorities arrested a gang of 10 people trafficking in human organs in the capital, Baghdad, on the first of last March.
