Recently, the rate of women joining organized crime gangs in Iraq has increased, as the gangs are now using the female element in the crimes they carry out, something that Iraq was not previously accustomed to.
In light of this development, social affairs researcher Mustafa Al-Taie confirmed today, Wednesday (September 13, 2023), that the rates of women’s participation in the world of organized crime have increased recently.
Al-Taie told “Baghdad Today” that “there is an increase in the percentage of women’s participation in organized crime gangs, and this matter is not hidden from everyone,” noting that “one of the reasons for the increase in these percentages is the deterioration of the living and economic situation of some families, which prompted women to be a part.” Who are these gangs?
He added, "Family disintegration pushed some girls into illegal and illegal work," noting that "family disintegration is alien to Iraqi society, and has various causes, including poor use of social networking sites, family problems, living conditions, and others."
The Ministry of Interior announced earlier the arrest of four women and a man who detained a girl for the purpose of trafficking her in Baghdad.
The ministry stated in a statement, received by "Baghdad Today", that "detachments of the Baghdad Anti-Crime Directorate affiliated with the Police Affairs Agency were able to arrest four accused women and a man who detained a girl inside a house within the Al-Saydiya area in Baghdad."
She added, "The arrest took place after information became available to the detachments of the Al-Amel District Crime Control Office about a group of women and a man detaining a girl and raping her in one of the residential homes within the district of responsibility."
She pointed out that "a working team was formed to follow up on the incident, and after investigating and collecting information that resulted in the arrest of the accused, and when investigating them, it was found that they were luring girls, seducing them financially, and providing them with housing for the purpose of trafficking them."
The Ministry noted that "the defendants' statements were recorded as confessions and they were arrested in accordance with the provisions of Article 422 of the Penal Code to receive their just punishment."
For its part, the Federal Police Command was defeated last August by overthrowing a human trafficking gang consisting of 4 defendants, including three women, in Baghdad.
The command stated in a statement, "A joint force from the Federal Police Mechanized Division, supported by intelligence efforts, and a detachment from the Organized Crime Directorate, Human Trafficking Division, was able to arrest a gang consisting of four defendants, including 3 women specialized in human trafficking, in (Al-Bayaa area) in Baghdad."
She added, "The operation took place after their whereabouts were raided and they were arrested red-handed," noting that "they were duly referred to the competent authority to complete the legal procedures against them."
Yesterday, Tuesday (September 12, 2023), the Babylon Police Command revealed details of a horrific crime against a murdered girl in the Alexandria district of the governorate.
The leadership indicated in a statement received by "Baghdad Today" that it had "identified one of the perpetrators of the heinous crime against the betrayed child, who was burned to death after her disappearance in the Alexandria district, north of the governorate."
She explained that "preliminary information indicates that one of the parties to the crime was a 36-year-old woman," stressing that "the investigation into the incident is still ongoing and we will provide you with more details about the circumstances of this heinous crime."
