Strategic affairs researcher Ahmed Al-Sharifi warned of the outbreak of direct clashes between “Iran’s allies” and American forces inside Iraq, while suggesting that Iraq is entering a “dangerous stage.”
Al-Sharifi said in an interview with Al-Mada, “Indicators point towards an increase in the seriousness of the security challenge in Iraq during the next stage.”
The security researcher continued, “We do not think that there will be a direct clash between Iran’s allies and the American forces in Iraq, in a more severe manner.”
Al-Sharifi expected that “the United States will carry out special operations, targeting the command and control system,” noting that “a direct clash means the operations will move to the regional level, that is, the threat of a regional war, the repercussions of which will be reflected on the security and military levels of Iraq, in addition to the economic level.”
He pointed out, “America and Iran have begun to settle their scores in Iraq,” pointing out that “neutralizing the government and its institutions makes Iraq a hotbed of threat to international peace and security.”
The security researcher went on to say, “If international will intervenes, we are on the cusp of internationalization, and this means that Iraq is in a dangerous stage that requires finding serious solutions to ward off conflict.” The United Nations mission in Iraq warned, on Saturday, that the country would be at risk if attacks continued from inside and outside it.
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, said in a statement, “The Middle East is going through a critical phase, as the simmering conflict in Gaza and armed actions elsewhere threaten to erupt into a major confrontation.” She added, "Iraq is at risk of being further drawn into this conflict. Despite the government's efforts to prevent the escalation of tensions, the continuing attacks, which are launched from inside and outside Iraq's borders, would undermine the stability achieved after efforts in the country and the achievements." achieved in recent years,” according to the statement.
She pointed out that “all United Nations efforts are focused on seeking to end the conflict in Gaza and avoid its spread to the region, and the Secretary-General has repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire on humanitarian grounds in Gaza, the delivery of sustainable relief, and full respect for international humanitarian law, including Protect civilians, and unconditionally release all hostages.”
According to the statement, Plasschaert stressed that “Iraq’s stability and security are at the forefront and core of all our work, and we also reiterate our call to all parties to exercise the utmost levels of restraint.
