Director General of the West Asia Office of the Iranian Trade Development Organization, Abdul Amir Rabihawi, speaking during a meeting of activists in the construction, infrastructure, technical, engineering, and hospital construction sectors in Iran under the topic of developing participation in urban and structural projects in Iraq, said: “Since 2012, the topic of The activity of Iranian technical and engineering companies and their presence in the Iraqi market has increased significantly, and from 2012 to 2017, Iran has implemented projects in Iraq worth approximately $4 billion.

He added, "During this period, projects were completed with the registration of 41 major international Iranian technical and engineering companies in Iraq, which, in addition to Iraq, had a precedent in completing projects in other countries. However, Iraq had the lion's share of the number of Iranian technical and engineering services companies during the years." "The last, and the highest value in project completion."

Abdul Amir Rabihawi said, “It is unfortunate that the presence of ISIS terrorists at some point in Iraq caused problems for Iranian technical and engineering companies, and Iraq also faced a problem in paying Iran’s dues.”

He pointed out that, "Despite all these problems, the 41 technical and engineering service companies have completed approximately 88 projects worth $4 billion in Iraq. Very important projects have been completed in the Kurdistan region of Iraq and the central government, and include types of dams, tunnels, factories, and types of power stations."

Rabihawi pointed out the importance of the Iraqi market for Iran, expressing his hope that the problems will be resolved through negotiations, and that Iranian companies will be able to attend tenders for various projects in Iraq.

The Director General of the West Asia Office of the Iranian Trade Development Organization pointed out that Iraq needs 2.5 million housing units, and at present Iranian companies have a good presence in Najaf, Baghdad, Karbala and others, where they are completing projects exceeding a thousand housing units, although these activities are within the framework of contracting. But it provides good returns in hard currency for Iran, he said.
