The American magazine CEOWORLD reported yesterday, Sunday, that Iraq ranked 95th and last according to the percentage of women in the workforce for the year 2024.
According to a magazine report, viewed by Al Mada, the barriers that prevent women from joining the workforce, such as tax distortions, discrimination, and social and cultural factors, are actually more costly than previously thought.
On the other hand, the magazine says, the benefits resulting from closing gender gaps are greater than expected, stressing the need for policy makers to take urgent action to remove these barriers and ensure equal opportunities for all.
The magazine noted that “the global average of women in the labor force during the current year reached 50.6%, adding that Burundi (a country in East Africa) has the highest percentage of women in the labor force, with the percentage of females reaching 78.25% of the formal and informal labor force.”
She stated, “Iraq ranked 95th and last in the lowest percentage of women in the workforce, with the percentage of females being only 10.76% of the workforce, and this leaves men to work in most of the country’s jobs.”
The magazine’s report believes that, “Although the Iraqi government has made some efforts to improve women’s rights, there are still various obstacles that prevent women from obtaining equal rights and the ability to work.”
