Jordanian exports to Iraq increased during the first 11 months of last year with a growth rate of 1.4% compared to the same period a year before last, according to the latest foreign trade figures issued by the Department of General Statistics in Jordan.
Official figures show that the value of the Kingdom of Jordan's exports to Iraq amounted to 573 million Jordanian dinars, compared to 565 million, recording an increase of 8 million dinars (the Jordanian dinar is 1.41 US dollars).
The Iraqi market represented approximately 20% of Jordanian exports to the countries of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, amounting to 2.820 billion dinars until the end of last November, while it constituted 7% of the total value of national exports, amounting to 7.606 billion for the same period.
Jordan exports 300 products to Iraq
According to data issued by the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Jordan exports more than 300 national products to Iraq. Including soap products, detergents, fertilizers, electrical wires and connectors, medicines and antibiotics, clothing, and food industries.
According to data issued by the Chamber, there are still lost export opportunities to the Iraqi market, estimated at more than about 200 million dollars per year, represented in the food industries, pharmaceutical industries, some plastic industries and the paper and metal packaging industries.
Increase in Iraq's exports to Jordan
Regarding the Kingdom of Jordan's imports from Iraq, official figures indicate an increase in Jordan's imports from Iraq during the first eleven months of last year by 23%, reaching 174 million dinars, compared to 142 million.
The Kingdom of Jordan imports many products from the Iraqi market, including crude oil, oils, straw, grains, various fruits, dried dates, pistachios, organic chemical products, dyes, surface coloring materials, and unalloyed aluminum furniture.
According to the Chamber’s data, Iraqi industries have export opportunities to the Jordanian local market estimated at more than $100 million (excluding oil derivatives), which are lost opportunities, represented in many sectors, the most important of which are metals, minerals, and some paper and food industries.
The volume of trade exchange between the two countries (exports and imports) reached 747 million dinars during the first 11 months of last year.
During the recent period, Jordan and Iraq signed a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding, including excluding the products of the two countries from any import registration system, accelerating the completion of the executive steps to establish the joint economic city, in addition to electrical interconnection projects, and continuing to exempt a list of Jordanian products from customs duties.
