The Parliamentary Immigration and Community Reconciliation Committee confirmed its intention to approve a draft law banning human trafficking in the country, pointing out that 2,800 Yazidis disappeared nine years ago and their fate has not yet been known.
Committee member Sherif Suleiman said in a statement reported by Al-Sabah newspaper, seen by Mawazine News, that the House of Representatives is working to approve a draft law prohibiting human trafficking, especially after discussing the report of the international and regional campaign to search for missing and forcibly disappeared persons.
He explained that the law mainly targets the Yazidi component, because they have suffered greatly due to the crimes of ISIS terrorist gangs, especially women and children, as more than 6,000 women and children have been subjected to acts of kidnapping and disappearance since August of 2014, about 3,000 of whom were women and children. While about 2,800 children and women are still missing for more than nine years, he stressed that the parliamentary committee seeks to reach them through field research, and through decisions and legislation that the House of Representatives intends to approve soon.
Suleiman continued that the search for the missing people will take place inside the country and in neighboring countries, calling on the government to form committees and teams to search for the missing people in the field, especially since it has not taken any steps to search for them since their kidnapping until now.
