    Al-Sumaria News - Economy

The annual inflation rate in Iraq reached 4.5%, with a noticeable increase in the level of inflation in the last month of the year 2023, despite the Central Bank raising the interest rate and offering bonds that would curb inflation, according to the head of the “Future Iraq” Foundation for Economic Studies and Consultations. Manar Al-Obaidi.

Al-Obaidi said in a blog post followed by Al-Sumaria News, “External and internal factors have contributed and will contribute to the rise in inflation rates, specifically in foodstuffs. The table below shows the amount of increase in each food commodity according to the governorate, as it is noted that most governorates witnessed a significant increase in the prices of meat and fish during 2023.” At rates exceeding 20%, this increase is expected to continue for reasons related to the scarcity of meat, in addition to the rise in global transportation prices and also due to the limited supply of meat during this period of the year.”
