Sudanese Advisor: “Terrorism is international”... How do we confront it without an “international coalition”?
Khaled Al-Yaqoubi, the security advisor to the Prime Minister, described the relationship between Iraq and the United States as not an easy issue, especially since the world is living in confused conditions, even within the United Nations, while he asked: How do you fight international terrorist organizations, without an international coalition?
Al-Yaqoubi, in a speech during the “Baghdad Dialogue” forum held on Saturday:
The relationship between Iraq and America is thorny and contains many complications. Let us not make the matter easy, as America was recently occupying Iraq, was managing it politically and security-wise, and headed a large international coalition in this context.
When we talk about international organizations such as Al-Qaeda and ISIS, they consist of fighters from different countries and complex international recruitment networks, so how will you confront them alone? Therefore, the idea of forming international alliances to confront these organizations comes under the heading of multinationalism, so that there will be a counter force with the same mechanism.
Pay attention...the whole world is in turmoil.
The international coalition consisting of 86 countries, which was formed to fight ISIS, is run by a general secretariat and has meetings at the level of the defense ministers of the member countries, as well as meetings of the ministers of finance and the recruitment movement. Therefore, these files are not easy, especially in a turbulent world. It includes a major international conflict, as the United States is no longer alone in leading the world, as it was in the 1990s. There are divisions in the UN Security Council and United Nations organizations.
Mr. Sudanese pledged not to keep foreign forces, and this represents the desire of the forces that formed this government. They want Iraqi lands to be free of foreign presence. The Iraqi political forces believe that the Iraqi forces, with their sacrifice they made against ISIS, are sufficient to protect Iraqi lands.
Mr. Prime Minister believes that his government is subject to parliamentary accountability and this issue is included in the government program. Parliament voted on the government program and the ministerial cabinet in one basket, and he is faced with a commitment and accountability before Parliament.
Washington “made sacrifices.” We also
went to Washington and presented our point of view, and we discovered that the American side also had its concerns and fears and shared the same opinion with us on the issue of sacrifices and that it had spent money. They believed that the security of the region constituted a depth to their national security, and at that time we reached the formation of a technical military committee that worked To assess the security situation according to three factors: the first is the threat of ISIS and whether ISIS poses a major security threat to Iraq, the second is the operational and environmental conditions of the region, and the third is the capabilities of the Iraqi army.
Washington is selfish in its armaments.
The United States has some selfishness, as it was dealing with the issue of military equipment according to political calculations. If your position is not in line with its policy, you may be held accountable, and this is what happened with the second Maliki government.
We agreed on these three points and meetings were held. Unfortunately, the Americans delayed us for 5 months. The dialogue was supposed to start on October 10, but what happened on October 7 (Gaza) made them say, “We do not negotiate under fire.”
The Sudanese is convinced and the committees will not work under pressure
after that. Mr. Prime Minister convinced the American National Security Advisor, and after 3 days the White House agreed and the rounds of dialogue began, and now the second round has ended, and I believe that if we want to preserve the sacrifices that we made against ISIS, these committees are supposed to be Far from political pressure, to move away from the mistakes of the past.
