The Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee announced that Iraq will invest gas from the giant Akkas field in Anbar, to produce electrical energy during the coming period through the fifth and sixth licensing rounds, indicating the presence of large international companies that have submitted offers regarding that.
Committee member Bassem Naghimesh said in a statement to the official newspaper, followed by Al-Iqtisad News, that “the government program includes developing the oil sector, especially investing in gas fields through the fifth and sixth licensing rounds and the fifth annex,” noting the presence of large international companies, including parties that submitted offers regarding... These fields, and if the deal is completed, within three years we will reach self-sufficiency in electricity and also in oil derivatives.”
He pointed out, "There is a round of 6 other refineries that will be developed and new refineries will be built if the investment is made, noting that the fifth round and its annex are part of the country's border strip, in addition to the sixth round, the vast majority of which is gas investment, the most important of which is investing in Akkas gas in Anbar."
