The Integrity Commission thwarted an attempt to seize a property worth more than 60 billion dinars, while the Najaf Police Command announced the arrest of 28 food price manipulators.
Representative Muhammad Al-Khafaji said in a press statement: “The integrity teams in Karbala succeeded in thwarting an attempt to seize a property worth more than 60 billion dinars on the outskirts of the governorate, as the property numbers were falsified with other numbers to facilitate its sale.” He added that "the process of forgery and tampering with maps and documents took place through real estate data," stressing that "the process of arresting and revealing the tampering process is an important step to prevent corruption."
Meanwhile, the Wasit Criminal Court issued a fifteen-year prison sentence against a drug dealer for the crime of trafficking in narcotic substances. A statement by the Supreme Judicial Council stated that “the convict was found in possession of 80 grams of the narcotic substance methylamphetamine.” He added, "The ruling was issued in accordance with the provisions of Article 27/First of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017 and in reference to Articles 47, 48 and 49 of the Penal Code and as an inference to the provisions of Article 132 thereof." In addition, the Najaf Governorate Police Command announced the arrest of 28 food price manipulators. A statement from the leadership stated, “The Commander of the Najaf Governorate Police, Major General Alaa Jaber Hashem, directed the necessity of monitoring market prices, and under the direct supervision of the Director of Combating Organized Crime in Najaf Al-Ashraf, the Directorate carried out many field visits to the owners of bakeries, Samoon ovens, and fish and meat shops.” He continued, “Anti-organized crime detachments were able to arrest 28 food price manipulators,” noting that “after investigating them, they were referred to the judiciary to receive their just punishment.”
