    Economy News - Baghdad
The Ministry of Construction and Housing announced, on Monday, the completion of more than 20 basic designs for sustainable residential cities, and while revealing the second phase of its plan for residential cities, it indicated that the price of one meter in the Jeweler City will be 900 thousand dinars.
The ministry’s spokesman, Istabraq Sabah, said in a statement reported by the official news agency, and seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “the Ministry of Construction and Housing, in implementation of the government program to support and develop the housing sector in Iraq, has completed more than 20 basic designs for sustainable residential cities in a number of cities.” Iraqi governorates,” indicating that “a number of standards were taken into consideration, the most important of which are the social standard and the economic standard for these governorates, in addition to the housing gap or the extent of the need for the number of housing units in those governorates.”

He added, "We launched the first generation of these new residential cities, and laid the foundation stone for the first city, which is Al-Jawahiri City in the Abu Ghraib area, with 30,000 units and 10,000 serviced plots of land. We also laid the foundation stone for Al-Ghazlani City in Nineveh Governorate, with 28,000 housing units." The Ali Al-Wardi City contract was signed in the Al-Wahda neighborhood area with 120,000 housing units, in addition to transferring the city of the banks of Karbala to Holy Karbala and the city of Al-Janain in Babil Governorate,” noting that “there are about 52 sustainable residential cities distributed throughout the center and south of the country.” ".

He stated, "The second phase of the new residential cities will include about 10 cities distributed in a number of governorates," pointing out that "the housing need is now worrying the Iraqi citizen, and there is a shortage of housing units of more than 3 million units."

He stated, "These cities will fill the shortage of housing units. If Al-Jawahiri City is completed, it will contain approximately 40,000 housing units, 120,000 housing units in Ali Al-Wardi City, and more than 4,000 dunums, with 90,000 housing units in New Sadr City, and there will be about 200,000 housing units." A housing unit in Baghdad only,” he explained, “Work in new residential cities requires stages and short-, medium- and long-term planning.”

He stated, “Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, during the laying of the foundation stone for Al-Jawahiri City, set a time limit of about three years for the complete completion of the city and it will be delivered according to stages and phases,” pointing out that “Ali Al-Wardi City, for its part, needs 6-7 years to complete it completely, as we speak.” About 120 thousand housing units.

He pointed out that "the strategy followed by the government through these cities is the best possible for the purpose of addressing the current housing within the economic capabilities and resources available to the state. For example, the investor of Ali Al-Jawahiri City will grant 10,000 plots of serviced land free of charge for the purpose of redistributing these lands." serviced to the most deserving groups,” indicating, “Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani directed that residential cities be targeted primarily or primarily for vulnerable, deprived groups, and then the middle groups and what is higher than that.”

He stated, “The strategy followed in these cities includes us handing over a percentage of the housing units and lands free of charge to the state, and obliging the investor to sell the housing units according to what was agreed upon during the submission of technical and economic feasibility studies during the rehabilitation phase or during the phase of referring these cities to developers.” Obliging the investor to follow the maximum or highest environmental standards regarding the use of clean energies, and also to rely on alternative and modern systems in building these new cities in line with the current climate changes.”

He stated, "These cities will provide thousands of job opportunities for the people of the country, in addition to adding important economic gains to the owners of factories and production machinery with regard to the private sector, since their materials will be used in building the cities."

He stated, “Through these cities, we aim to withdraw high population densities from the centers of governorates, cities, and districts towards the outskirts of the capital or outside the boundaries of the basic designs,” pointing out, “The prices will be according to what Minister Benkin Rekani warned about in more than one meeting about the Jeweler City.” The price per meter will be around 900 thousand dinars, which is small when compared to other residential investment projects in terms of geographical location, cost, building patterns, and population and housing densities.”

He stated, "The Baghdad Metro will include three main cities in Baghdad Governorate, which are Al-Jawahiri City, Ali Al-Wardi City, and New Al-Sadr City," pointing out, "The Ministry of Construction and Housing is obligated to provide the main roads to and from these cities while providing all infrastructure services to the external fence." .
