    Economy News - Baghdad
[rtl]Today, Tuesday, Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani explained the details of gas investment projects in Iraq, while stating that Iraq’s contract with the French company Total will provide electric energy and water for agricultural purposes. He set the date for operating gas investment projects in the Halfaya, Nasiriyah, and Al-Gharraf fields.[/rtl]
Abdul Ghani told the official agency, followed by Al-Eqtisad News: “Gas is considered the energy that can be relied upon in the future in the coming years,” indicating that “the Ministry has taken great steps in the issue of investing in gas to reduce its burning from various fields.”
He added, "Many of the projects that have been signed and activated include the Basra (NGL) project, which is (NGL1) and (NGL2), which is implemented by the Basra Gas Company and is in partnership between Shell and the South Gas Company," pointing to "the signing of a contract with the French company Total." “This is considered one of the Ministry’s major contracts for gas investment with a capacity of 600 million cubic feet, in addition to the use of solar energy to generate electrical energy, as well as the use of seawater for reservoir injection purposes, which will provide five million barrels of river water for agricultural purposes, which is considered one of the environmentally friendly projects par excellence.”
He stressed that "there are projects to invest gas in the Halfaya field in Maysan with a capacity of 300 million cubic feet, which has reached the final stages of trial operation," pointing out that "this project will be operated within two or three months and the gas will be directed to the national grid to operate the power stations."
He stated that “there is another project in Nasiriyah with a capacity of 200 million cubic feet of gas, which is being implemented by an American company, Baker Hughes,” explaining that “this project has reached a completion rate of 65 percent and will be operated during the third quarter of this year at partial capacity.” It exceeds 60 million cubic feet, as gas will be invested from the Nasiriyah and Gharraf fields.”
Regarding the refineries file, Abdul Ghani explained, “We have a Holy Karbala refinery project with a capacity of 140,000 barrels per day, and it is considered one of the modern and environmentally friendly refineries par excellence.”
He confirmed, "The completion and operation of the fourth unit in the southern refineries in addition to the northern refineries (Bayji) with a capacity of 150 thousand barrels per day," pointing out that "these refineries were destroyed during the battles with ISIS, but with the efforts of the spare men in the Northern Refineries Company, they were restarted."
